Welcome, Dex Hunter-Torricke!

We are thrilled to welcome our newest ThinkLab Visiting Research Fellow, Dex Hunter-Torricke!

Dex will be joining the ThinkLab team to help with a variety of future-facing projects and initiatives we have on the horizon. Dex brings a tremendous wealth of experience, and is head of global communications and marketing for Google DeepMind, one of the world’s leading AI labs. Over the last 15 years Dex has advised leaders from global governance and business including as head of communications for SpaceX, head of communications and public policy for Meta’s Oversight Board, head of executive communications for Facebook, and as Google’s first executive speechwriter where he wrote for Eric Schmidt and Larry Page. Dex began his career as speechwriter and spokesperson for the executive office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. A New York Times-bestselling ghostwriter, he is a frequent public speaker on technology’s impact on society.

On joining the ThinkLab team, here’s what Dex wanted to share: “I’m delighted to join the world-class community of interdisciplinary talent that is part of the University of Cambridge’s ThinkLab. At a time of rapid and profound technological change, it is essential that academia and industry work closely together to understand how technology is impacting society. I believe AI has a vital role to play in solving the fundamental challenges of our time, and I’m looking forward to exploring this subject through ThinkLab.”
